In 1970, after 22 years across multiple television networks, The final episode of the TV show The Original Amateur Hour aired.

Ted Mack ended the talent show on his own accord, actually.

He was retiring.

The program was a huge pioneer in the genre.

And then I, I got the guts to audition for, um, the, the talent show that was in New York, you know?

The, the, yes, the Ted Mack, um, it's, um-

Ted Mack.

Yes.

Ted Mack.

Ted, yeah, Ted Mack Amateur Hour.

I auditioned for it.

They ha- they were coming through Detroit, and they had a audi- I auditioned.

to a talent contest.

It was called the Ted Mack Amateur Hour.

Oh, yes.

And I was three and they submitted me to it.

That's right.

And I've always felt that way about music because he did instill that in me.

And when I went on the Ted Mack show and ultimately the national show, I was fortunate enough to do that.

I didn't win.
