Taxman

A lot of people don't realize, of course, he started as a guitar player.

On Taxman, he taught George Harrison the solo on Taxman.

And if you're familiar with that, I knew that.

So George gave him guff for that, so to speak.

But that's what happened.

He did a little something on Taxman.

That's Paul.

And, you know, it's from the way the artwork looks on the front.

To the music, I mean, starts out with Taxman.

There's George Harrison getting the first song on an album for the first time.

Then you go to Eleanor Rigby, Love You Too, Here, There, and Everywhere, Yellow Submarine, She Said, She Said, Good Day Sunshine, which to me, Some people love that song.

And Lennon is writing the kind of weirder ones and the more introspective ones.

And of course, George Harrison contributes a couple of tracks to this one, including the opener, which is Taxman.

But Eleanor Rigby includes string quartet and voices, and that's it.

So it's the three of them, no Ringo on this one, just singing.

Side A, surprisingly enough, Frankie, starts with George Harrison on lead vocals in Taxman.

That's it.

Labour pinned its colours to the mast over the weekend and wants to tax more to spend more.

Taxman from the Beatles was written by George Harrison in 1966 when Harold Wilson came to power in Britain.

He imposed a super tax of 95%.

On the Extremely Wealthy, of which the Beatles were on paper, but their accountants warned them they were about to become bankrupt.

In 1966, Taxman was track one on the Revolver album.

Let me tell you how it will be.

And by the way, it featured a very influential guitar riff that the British band The Jam later ripped off for their number one UK hit Start.

It does make me laugh.

It is also one of the most rocking and great Beatles tracks of all time, and that's Taxman.

And this is another one where the listening of the song itself is not so funny as much as the idea that he did it, that George Harrison was just so mad about his taxes.

And it's not the last time that he will write about financial woes in his career.

I love the Beatles sometimes and I'll come across folks who aren't so into them.

They're like, oh, what songs do you think I should listen to? And sometimes it's hard to come up with four or five just bangers that will win over someone who's not already charmed by the band.

And sometimes I'll think of Taxman because of the beat and the sort of tone.

But I'm like, I don't know if Taxman is the right topic to like win somebody over.

It does make me laugh.
