Taxi Driver

I really liked this movie and I'm so glad that I watched it now because we spoke about this a bit before where I think you didn't vibe with it the first time you watched it because you were too young to be watching a film like this.

This is a film where you need some... real world and real life experience this is a movie for someone in their 30s is what i'm trying to say yeah i don't really think it hits where it's supposed to for anyone younger than that like maybe like late 20s if we want to get really technical um martin had the same thing he he said he watched it too young and didn't vibe with it i think he still doesn't really really connect with it but maybe just i don't know that first experience has not he's not sort of been able to shake that when watching it this time i really i really liked it it's feels and because of the people involved with it feels very like a a spiritual sequel of sorts to taxi driver it's taxi driver with after hours energy and i

kept calling it ambulance driver

Yeah, that's a really good combination for me.

This movie is set in New York in the 90s or whatever.

But it has that...

There's a lot of Taxi Driver in it.

I think specifically in the garishness of the city and the way it's shot.

It is also, and this is like a very minor hot take because it's only relevant to our podcast.

It is basically a mirror image of Taxi Driver.

I will argue my way through this.

And it's also obviously a film about control.

So this film, and again, we've got a little bit of form with this and it's maybe less interesting to our audience, but it was generally like a seminal work for me as a young cinephile.

So the complete opposite effect that Taxi Driver had on me in that I adored this film.

I bought the soundtrack.

beachside town in New England but no one knows that she lives alone obviously because that would take her away so she keeps she's also very intelligent she keeps up this lie that like oh no I live with my father he's a famous writer and he's often leaves me home alone because he has he goes up to New York for business and whatever and when people come over ask is your father home she's like no he's out of town on business or you just missed him he went downtown or whatever So she's been keeping this lie up so she doesn't go to school and she lives alone in this house.
