The response was swift, as can be seen in the video of the event, with security immediately swarming, grabbing the activist pretty roughly, In fact, literally dragging them out, it looks far more violent than anything Gort were doing.
FlintHOST

It's not even the first action they've done, by the way, because back in July, they climbed atop the entrance to the Tavistock Clinic with a trans flag to unfurl another banner saying, Gort demands informed consent now.
FlintHOST

While someone stood outside the building with a megaphone speaking about the injustices that we face.

We know that it was the gender affirmative approach that brought down the Tavistock Clinic.

74:58

That means more children on puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, future surgeries, medical patients for life.

The thing is I felt let down by the NHS when I went to speak to my GP and was invalidated and not, there was no care in that, in that meeting.
Ton MazzoneGUEST
41:37
Um, but it was scree- we did a screening within the NHS, um, called the Tavistock Clinic, which is an NHS trust not far from me.
Ton MazzoneGUEST
41:48
So it was in North London, which is where I live, uh, in front of over 100 healthcare professionals who will potentially be helping people.
Ton MazzoneGUEST
41:59
And so that was a really proud-

Which was interesting.
Jon GoldinGUEST

And, um, uh, I remember working in the adolescent department many years ago at the Tavistock Clinic, and we did talk.
Jon GoldinGUEST
6:22
I had an excellent supervisor, a man called Robin Anderson, and we did talk about how adolescent characteristics really do continue well into adulthood.
Jon GoldinGUEST
6:32
And in fact, you could say that many people who are having midlife crises or things like that are revisiting aspects of their adolescence that perhaps they haven't fully worked through at an earlier age.

Patients currently awaiting surgery may have entered the pathway before the Welsh Gender Service was established.
AshleighHOST

Prior to this, patients in Wales accessed gender services through the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board continues to work closely with the NHS Wales Joint Commissioning Committee and partners across Wales in relation to the temporary pause to referrals for gender affirming surgery and scheduled surgery through the Welsh Gender Service.

We recognise that this continues to be a difficult and uncertain period for many patients and remain committed to providing clear, factual information and supporting those affected.

And in the wake of that, in the United Kingdom, the National Health Service of Britain shut down its flagship gender clinic that was doing these transition procedures.
Aaron KheriatyGUEST
6:33
The Tavistock Clinic essentially closed its doors, and they said, "No, we're gonna give, we're gonna give supportive psychotherapy and s- um, [lip smack] uh, psychological social interventions to help these young kids who are struggling with gender identity issues, but we're not going to mutilate their bodies.
Aaron KheriatyGUEST
6:51
We're not gonna put them on hormones that cause irreversible changes and, and oftentimes cause downstream health, uh, consequences." So the, the question for us was, given the very poor health outcomes that were already apparent to anyone who wanted to look in, in the research on this question, why was it, how is it that hospitals and clinics so readily embrace these things?
Dave ScarlettHOST
7:18
Yes.
Sam MacleanHOST
54:38
Yeah.
Martin SeagerGUEST

And also they can help each other in a male-friendly way, because when I ran a men's therapy group with a colleague years ago, we found that the group could get into massive banter, you know, which wouldn't be like classic Tavistock Clinic group therapy.
Sam MacleanHOST
54:54
Mm.
Martin SeagerGUEST
54:54
But you are bantering, making a joke, sometimes a crude joke, but it's just blokish behavior, which is great, and everyone's bonding, and then suddenly a guy starts crying about something.
Caroline O'ReillyHOST

As part of his research, he observed meetings organised by Momaze, which is a charity that supports transgender, non-binary and gender diverse children and young people, as well as their families and the professionals involved in their care.

Poppy CoburnGUEST

What was happening at the Tavistock Clinic? No, I
Angus ColwellGUEST

The original question that we started with when we began the work on this report, not necessarily knowing [chuckles] at that time that we were going to uncover the widespread pattern of fraudulent billing, but the, the question was, given the fact that we now have ample evidence that these procedures are not safe and they're not effective, there was a report last year from the Department of Health and Human Services just looking at the scientific evidence- There was another report two years ago from the United Kingdom commissioned by their National Health Service, the so-called Cass Report, that also found that these procedures were not safe and effective.
Aaron KheriatyGUEST
6:23
And in the wake of that, the UK shut down their flagship gender clinic that was run by their NHS, the, the Tavistock Clinic.
Aaron KheriatyGUEST
6:32
So the question for us was, given the fact that we now have evidence that this is not helpful to people and particularly harmful to young people, how was it that hospitals so uncritically embraced it? What was driving those decisions? What was the hospital's usual mechanism for vetting a new procedure, for assessing the safety and efficacy of a new procedure, for providing medical staff privileges for the doctors or the surgeons that were going to be performing those procedures? And how did it fail in the case of gender medicine, in the case of these sex-rejecting procedures? That was the question that we began with.
Aaron KheriatyGUEST
7:14
And part of the answer to that question is, I think the hospitals embraced this for ideological reasons.
