Tathra

We're on the New South Wales far south coast.

Like just down in that Eden Bega region, Tarthra.

Just incredible, really.

How lucky we are to have places like that and others all over Australia.

and debrief a bit.

Went to this little beach near Tathra, South Coast, New South Wales, no phone reception, enjoying myself.

Nice soft breezes of into March 2004, sunny, lovely.

Lovely.

Uh, Sapphire Coast Orchid Club, uh, that's in the Tathra.

That's down the south coast of New South Wales, the Tathra Surf Life Saving Club.

Thanks for looking after, uh, the orchids down there and the orchid club.

So I had the opportunity to work there, um, built some confidence and gained some great experience.

Um, Few years later, I moved back to Tartara to be closer to my family and friends.

I worked for a couple of gyms in Rumbula and Bega, which are close by nearby towns with some amazing trainers there.

But I still didn't have the confidence to go out on my own like at all.

It seems that the whales used its tail to just hit the ship and it sank.

And one of the Illawarra and South Coast Steam Navigation Company's steamers, the Bega, simply turned turtle and sank between Tathra and Bermagui in 1908.

Its story is interesting because the wharfies in Bermaguri at the time had been on strike for some time.

So the Illawarra and South Coast Steam Navigation Company sent a replacement set of wharfies down to Tathra to load the ship.

It seems that they didn't do a particularly good job and the ship left the Tarthra Wharf without being properly balanced.

And because there'd been a strike for some time and because the ship was departing just before the Royal Agricultural Society show in Sydney was about to start, it was very heavily laden and very heavily laden with things like valuable cattle that were actually going to the Royal Easter Show.
