Tashlikh

I admit that my circumstances are unique, but looking out at this community, I know, I absolutely know, that I am not the only one entering this Rosh Hashanah feeling stuck.

I am not the only one who will do Tashlich and hold up a piece of bread that symbolizes the same issue that I had resolved last year to finally toss away for good.

I am not the only one who feels unresolved with a family member but doesn't even know how to start that conversation.

And that's why I think it's important in this season of repentance to focus not on the outcome, but on the action itself.

like-You go and repent.

It's called Tashlich, and you, which you're supposed to empty your pockets and, you know, leave your sins.

I- anyway, I hate that stuff.

But because it's, it, it's a distorted, overly humanized missed opportunity to look at it from an energetic point of view.

That's okay.

Uh, Tashlich with 150 people could have won Rosh Hashanah.

The bad boy earpieces that Steven and I wore in our ears and Jon and Matt on Friday for security and blah, blah, blah-

I enjoyed it twice.

Okay.

Uh, who wins, Baby SJ or Tashlich?

Baby SJ.

Everything that I am doing concatenates onto everything else and I am a result of all of these things that have happened in the past that I have no control over.

There's also a practice during Rosh Hashanah called Tashlich, where you very physically, you take rocks or something or sticks or some kind of object and you go to a body of moving water and you cast off all of your objects.

things that you want to cast off for the year, whether those be intentions that you want to rid yourself of or bad things that you've done that you want to atone for or various other things that you wish to remove from yourself.

And then, you know, you have to follow through on that.

But...

Before that, we're going to go outside for Tashlich, which is a wonderful, wonderful experience where we remember God's forgiveness and his mercy.

And we express our thankfulness for his forgiveness, what we've received, and we open our hearts to extend that to others as well.

And we've decided because it's been hot outside that we're going to do the readings inside and then go outside.

Ta-da for that.

So what we're going to do is finish this part of the service.

Then we will immediately start Tashlich, which is just a few readings and some contemplations.

Then we'll go outside, and you'll be able to go with your family.

So we'll all kind of meld together at some point and we'll make this announcement again.

But we have Tashlich this afternoon.

Tashlich is one of my absolute favorite traditions in Judaism as a whole.

Tashlich, again...

Rosh Hashanah is the beginning of the Yom Kippur, the 10 days of awe, a season of repentance leading to Yom Kippur.

And Tashlik is a physical interaction symbolically with the promise of forgiveness of sin that we see in Micah chapter 7, verses 18 through 20, in which God says he will cast our sins into the depths of the sea.

We will all head out there kind of together after Oneg.
