Tarpons

Yeah.

Like I, and like even now, like, or honestly, like ever since I did the two pound stuff, it makes me really marvel more at what some of the guys in Florida were able to pull off on two, four, six, eight in terms of big Tarpon.

And then to take it a step further, like at least on the trout side of things to see what guys like Bud Roland and Jay Wright have done with two, four, six and eight.

Yeah.

Like, I actually really want to, and I'm actually extremely glad that I did.

Like, I really do think that there's a lot of people who would find a lot of interest in a product like this.

And I think one of the things that would probably benefit right now is if you tell the story about the two Tarpon in Florida, where you were like, damn, now I should bring this to market.

Okay.

So I'm pretty fortunate.

If I had to take somebody new that didn't really understand how tarpon fishing was, I don't know how you'd do it.

I couldn't do it.

You'd drive them crazy.

I stopped, get a little something to drink about noontime, and I stopped maybe one more time.

And he said, hey, James.

I said, what's that, Jimmy? Doing this tarpon fishing, do we just drive around and drink? I smoked then and smoked cigarettes.

I just looked at him and said, yeah, pretty much, Jimmy.

And then we had two tarpon on, you know, and those were our bites.

But, man, just the, you know, this type of gear, what you see is almost as exciting as what you catch because it's so much fun.

Tarpon, notoriously aggressive.

What is the most aggressive game fish that you, would it be tarpon?

No, hell no.

will work in any of those places.

Even on Tarpon.

Question would be, what hook would you be limited to the same hook size for each place?

Okay.

Because, you know, the typical Woolly Bugger hook

may bend out on a Tarpon.

The platform just has to be the fly.

And I know the tarpon maybe is a different thing because they've, you mentioned the size range, maybe describe what's the most out of the three species, which one has life history that's kind of easiest to describe.

Well, the bonefish are definitely the most home-bodied.

And the only really research we've done down in Belize has been collaborated with Bonefish Tarpon Trust.

And one of their first studies they did was 10, 12 years ago to where they were tagging and tracking the bonefish migration routes.

And Most of those schools of bones would stay in the same lagoon for sometimes months on end.

We're, like I said, on the south end of the island, so great access to the fishing.

The guides will come straight into our pier and the dock in the morning after our breakfast service, and they pick up right at our dock and fish for a full day and then drop off, you know, right in the afternoon on the same dock.

A lot of our guests never really feel the need to leave the lodge, but if you want to, you know, we do have golf carts at the lodge that you're able to jump in in the afternoons, do some DIY fishing, go cruise around Bonefish Flats, look for DARPA in the small lagoons, or simply go to Happy Hours in town and cruise around and get some drinks in, listen to live music.

And so I feel like we're about to get into like, kind of like the pitfall of fly fishing.

And I know we're going to end up in Tarpon and I know it's going to take a lot of our time.

Yeah.

They've just got to get some really solid edges on the back, or like backs on the back of that.

And they've got Tarpon, you know, that sort of thing.

They've got good forwards.

this Raiders team has to perform better than what they did this year.

Yeah.
