Tango in the Night

Tango in the Dark, the one after Rumours, which is actually my favourite album of theirs, Fat Fans.

Before we kind of talk about the album a bit more in detail, for those who are unaware of who Fleetwood Mac are, before we begin, this is the second episode that we've covered on Fleetwood Mac.

Like a few years ago, in the start of 2022, actually, me and Peter from the Pop Caves of a Certain Age podcast talked about Tango in the Night.

And the way that I think about it is it was...

It was a weird combination.

I think they were viewed a little bit as has-beens at that point, particularly because I don't think Tango in the Night was as successful as they would have hoped.

My music history isn't ironclad, but particularly Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham went off to have solo careers, and I think those varied, those kind of oscillated in success.

She would later write a song called Welcome to the Room, Sarah about that experience.

That song's on the Tango in the Night album.

Sarah was an alter ego for Stevie.

This song is as much about Stevie as it is about Sarah Recore or anyone else.

And then a one-hit wonder, most would call, a phenomena during 1987.

You know this song, huge song.

Yeah.

I still love their production when they go into Tango in the Night and Mirage and stuff.

There's, there's amazing layers of vocals and guitars.

But when you strip it back, they're a phenomenal group.

Their

album Tango in the Night and a deluxe version of all kinds of tracks.

How much fun it was to discover.

I got to be with Fleetwood Mac not for the kids, then they would feel too sad for me.

And the personnel changes continued continuously in their later years.

Following the release of the album Tango in the Night, Lindsey Buckingham made the decision to leave the band in 1987.

He felt he could no longer tolerate the interpersonal dynamics and wanted to focus on his solo career.
