Yeah.
Dave BaldwinHOST
26:11
Um, why don't I do the doublehead- the Seth Rogen double-header- Sure ... of Tangles and Babies.
Dave BaldwinHOST
26:16
Go for it.
Dave BaldwinHOST
26:17
Um, so we'll go with Tangles first, which is an animated film.
Dave BaldwinHOST
26:21
Um, it is a, uh, a debut, a directorial debut from a Canadian filmmaker.
Dave BaldwinHOST
26:29
And I'm going to get her name, 'cause obviously I ...

Yeah
Dave BaldwinHOST

... and really enjoyed a lot more.
ThomasHOST
185:19
But it was one of my favorites at the festival.
ThomasHOST
185:21
Tangles, which is an animated film from director Leah Nelson.
ThomasHOST
185:28
It's based on a graphic novel from Sarah Levitt, who also co-wrote this with Trev Rennie and Leah Nelson.
ThomasHOST
185:36
And it's basically about this young woman... voiced by Abby Jacobson, who is a lesbian in the late 90s, lives in San Francisco, has a growing relationship with Donimo, played by Samira Wiley.
ThomasHOST
187:00
It's so well done.
ThomasHOST
187:01
It's very funny... it's very upsetting it does a really great job of balancing those tones so well it has an all-star voice cast i didn't even mention uh wanda sykes bowen yang seth rogan shows up and the moment you hear him laugh you're like there he is of course fucking seth showing up but um an incredible little movie that i'm i hope gets a bit more like attention i i could see it getting in like the animation race for this year which is animation's been in an interesting place in this particular year So I hope this one kind of like maybe stands above the rest and kind of becomes, you know, a bit more of the favorite maybe once the award season gets into it.
ThomasHOST
187:37
But yeah, Tangles, incredible little movie.
ThomasHOST
187:40
And with that, Shaquille, we're done talking about TIFF.
Andrew YoungHOST
53:30
Yes, yes.
Andrew YoungHOST
53:31
It is the film Tangles directed by Leah Nelson.
Andrew YoungHOST
53:34
It was her feature debut based on Sarah Leavitt's graphic novel Tangles, a story of Alzheimer's, my mother and me.
Andrew YoungHOST
53:43
It is a story about a young woman who is dealing with her mother being diagnosed with Alzheimer's while she's living on the other side of the country and her trying to be there for her mother while still maintaining her life in San Francisco.
Andrew YoungHOST
53:57
And Even though it's totally different subject matter, this had the same level of quality, time, and care to make sure that the adaptation was everything it could be to Persopolis.
Mr. GreenHOST
58:04
The same thing with the closing credits.
Mr. GreenHOST
58:06
They had a really great, fun system with that.
Mr. GreenHOST
58:09
But the voice cast in this, like you were mentioning with Tangles, it's a really star-studded cast of people that are not the Rogue Trooper.
Andrew FaigalHOST
43:25
that what i said to you is like i normally hate when movies both sides something it's like pick a stance and just give your point of view for that but i feel like it does it appropriately where you do see the right and wrongs for both sides like i grew up in a very religious family so i can kind of see like the point from both sides of like oh what you're doing is wrong or like oh no like you're literally just being discriminated for it so i can see stuff with that
Matt RorabeckHOST
43:48
And as well as growing up, if you have, you know, immigrant parents or you grew up with like stern Eastern European parents, I talked about my OPA in the in the review for Tangles.
Matt RorabeckHOST
43:59
And I'll talk about my OMA here, who is a very stern woman who if like, you know, I love her.
Matt RorabeckHOST
44:06
But and it's not saying any of that stuff's right.

Matt RorabeckHOST

just mean with the underexposure thing that you're talking about I noticed it when I've watched non IMAX movies in that IMAX theater there's like a weird thing where it looks darker than I would I know you're
Andrew FaigalHOST
84:13
Yeah,
Matt RorabeckHOST
84:13
it's happened because I just saw Tangles in there, even Everest.
Matt RorabeckHOST
84:18
Everest was optimized for IMAX because they do a whole digital processing thing to make sure that it works on those projectors, right? So I found when we've seen certain things...
