Um, and I ended up, you know, I'm the, the youngest, um, Black woman ever elected to Tampa City Council.
Joe King CarterHOST

Wow.

And so there was, um-
Patro MabiliHOST

And we know that the, uh, Amendment 3 is top-- topic on a lot of people's mind, and, uh, especially local governments, they're gonna wonder where revenue is gonna come from, uh, to keep first responders paid and, uh, keep the trash picked up and, uh, all of those things that counties do and local governments have to be responsible for, uh, but on a whole lot less money.
Patro MabiliHOST
12:10
Uh, so they're gonna find-- need to find ways to, uh, recoup that, and, uh, looks like- You know, that was, that was on the minds of, at least on the city, Tampa City Council when they passed that extra dollars to build a stadium, [laughs] uh, and the county followed suit.
Patro MabiliHOST
12:27
Only a minority of those lawmakers wondered, uh, whether or not they were jumping the gun before Amendment 3 was decided.
Patro MabiliHOST

And so if we lose that money, where is the local government's gonna get the money to pay for stadiums and other things like that? So that's top of mind as we head towards the US election, uh, midterm elections here in the United States, and especially here in Florida.

Patrick MobiliHOST
18:59
So he opposed Amendment 3 while Byron Donalds is saying because of the ad valorem tax that municipalities take up has been, he said they've been, busy using that revenue i haven't used it correctly but i i tend to think that it is up to us to really put that analysis to it is it home rule that is going to be the better way or rather not let a state the state decide determine for all zip codes uh whether or not we're gonna have funds that pay for services and uh When it comes to Amendment 3, we saw that the Tampa City Council, at least two members of the Tampa City Council, worried about passing funds for a stadium, a new stadium, because they were concerned about what would happen if Amendment 3 passes.
Patrick MobiliHOST
19:52
So local governments are going to have to figure that out.
Patrick MobiliHOST
19:55
So this is one of the reasons why a debate around that amendment is wholly important in this state and not just allow deflection and misinformation carried today.

Tampa City Council agreed to a new stadium tax, but two dissenters on the council, I do believe, wanted to wait until voters passed or voted down Amendment 3.
Patrick MobiliHOST

Because, after all, local governments are going to have to...
