Taking Back Sunday

And that was kind of all I had.

And then we, when I went like home to Connecticut where my family is for Christmas, I went a couple of days early and did like a couple of co-writing days with a Fred Macerino, who's in like, you know, taking back Sunday, the color Fred, all that.

And was just kind of like showing him whatever I had.

Cause I was like, we have to write a bunch of songs.

And Long Island had, especially when I was growing up, it had an incredible music scene.

You know, it was like rock and emo and that stuff, but it got huge, right? Glassjaw, brand new, Bayside, Straylight Run, Taking Back Sunday.

I was at these shows where they were playing in backyards and VFWs and things like this.

And I was always playing with like really high level guys trying to get better because what happens is like you play in a band, right? with um these two guys you know uh in particular were incredible guitar players one of them was my both of them were my best friends i end up touring with with one of them years later but uh you'd be in a band at 16 years old with them and like if you if you've like you fucked up once like you were fired from the band and they had a new drummer and it was just like how do i get back in the game you know i gotta get better so it was one of those things i remember the first time And it was with my studio friend.

think Taking Back Sunday was even before that.

I don't know.

Why do we have these conversations? That is always so important.

Okay, but Rocktober, you really nailed it.

What was the best show you saw? Or which one was your favorite? Because last week you told me there was one that was like, who was it where you were like, best show I've ever seen?

You know, Saves the Day, Thrice, Taking Back Sunday.

I think that's probably still number one that I saw for this month.

I have to make a point just to rewind a little bit.

You said about how we're into bands like Taking Back Sunday and Brand New.

Yeah.

When we first were exposed to quote-unquote emo, I remember the first time I was kind of told about emo and it was from a friend of mine who introduced me to Brand New and Taking Back Sunday and gave me their early albums to check out, etc., And I listened to Your Favorite Weapon, of course, and Tell All Your Friends.

And I was like, what is this sound? It's really cool.

And he's like, oh, it's emo music.

Like the brand new aesthetic from your favorite weapon.

Yeah.

So we spoke to Ryan from Tokyo Rose.

Tokyo Rose... been around for a number of years uh they're kind of having a moment like 20 years ago and we spoke to ryan this was around the end of july around the release of their their ep that they put out with uh fred from taking back sunday i believe produced it and um this was fun because ryan's got like lots of connections with the uk as well so you'll hear us talking about that and he's also similar age to us so we have lots in common so uh i think we can roll it now I can see my co-host Nick is here.

Nick, we were just discussing cricket as you joined.

I heard, yeah.

Tell me a little bit about your relationship with him first, and I guess a bit about recording the CP.

Yeah, so Fred has been a longtime friend for many years.

He actually took us on tour when he was with Taking Back Sunday the first go around.

He took us to kind of a two week thing when the Louder Now album came out.
