Tacoma City Council

Thank you for saving my bacon, Council Member Walker.

Mayor Ibsen, Deputy Mayor Bushnell, and members of Tacoma City Council, my name is Sierra Suofo-McLean, and I have the honor of serving on the Tacoma Arts Commission.

Tonight, it is my privilege to introduce the 2026 Amocat Arts Awards recipients.

Since 2004, the Amocat Arts Awards have recognized individuals and organizations who go above and beyond to support the arts in Tacoma.

Welcome, everyone.

Uh, Mayor Ibsen, this is the, uh, Tacoma City Council.

Uh, this is our first, um, in-district regular city council meeting, uh, which corresponds with community forum, which is where you can talk to us about anything that we have jurisdiction over.

So if you have an idea, uh, a general question, uh, there's something in your neighborhood you need help with, uh, this is your opportunity to talk to us.

Senator Yasmin Trudeau serves Washington's 27th legislative district in the state Senate.

Before joining the Senate, she served on the Tacoma City Council and has dedicated much of her career to public service, community leadership, and advocating for the people of Pierce County.

Chris Novoselic is best known as a co-founder and basis of Nirvana and has since started the Cascade Political Party here in Washington.

The Cascade Party has launched an immigration platform that Chris thinks deserves to be part of the wider conversation.

Our total listeners, 5,200.

Our top performing episode was the Tacoma City Council study session from May 5th, and I'll go into what that is.

I know, I see Council Member Walker going, "What?" The top three downloads for podcasts have been study sessions.

And, um, Rebecca Solverson actually said to me in the elevator the other day, "I love the fact that the, the study sessions are shared via podcast 'cause it gives me an opportunity to just listen to it where people get all of their information." Right here.

And these are annual awards that the Tacoma Arts Commission, City of Tacoma give out to recognize individuals, organizations, and groups for their above and beyond commitment to supporting arts and culture in Tacoma.

And they will be presented at Tacoma City Council on October 6th.

Yay.

This year's awardees, we have two people that are being awarded for community outreach by an individual.
