Tabla

Tabla-esque.

In our place, in our culture, it's very common that kids start learning any instrument or vocals or painting or arts in a very young age.

Tabla is a North Indian instrument and I'm from a South Indian place.

So most of the kids were learning tabla.

South Indian classical.

my guruji so i left i talked with my company owner, management, and I told them I'm going for master's, and okay, I go for master's.

And I did my master's in Punjab, but the reason to choose Punjab is Tabla, of course.

And I found my Guruji, Pandit Ramaganji, he's the eldest in Punjab, Karana, right now.

And I feel so blessed that, um, Rachel, uh, brings a beautiful live ensemble.

Um, not a keyboard to be seen, but last year we had, um, besides Red on Tabla, we had a very, very amazing, respected Muhammad Ali accordion player, Gamal El-Kordi, Emile Basili on violin, who played with Umm Kalsoum.

We had Ney, we had Aoud, we had Framedrum, and they'll all, I believe all of them are going to be back this November, and it's just a glorious ensemble to dance with.

And Retta and I will also be teaching in Australia for the first time in June, hosted by Fernanda Reschke.

Okay, so first that Anjali plays Tabla, and Tabla is usually played traditionally by men.

It's no longer like that.

but traditionally by men and i love that you did that and i picked that up right away because my my family is actually quite musical and my brother plays tabla my mom sings classical indian music and so it's a whole thing um the other thing i noticed was like the the dad like spoke up for anjali in the book many in a certain situation and i was like that's good you know um and like there was a situation in the book where she's playing table and auntie comes in and says oh you're setting that up for your dad your dad yeah and then he speaks up the other thing i noticed was um the co she wanted to uh raise her hand to do a certain And there was another kid that did it, too.
