Tab Ramos

Now, this is a match that Brazil dominated against the hosts on the day of the national holiday of the hosts.

An important event just before the halftime in the 44th minute where you have Leonardo elbowing the American Tab Ramos.

Obviously, Leonardo was sent off and Tab Ramos was taken to the hospital.

I think he had a broken bone behind his left ear and he Leonardo would be suspended for the rest of a tournament, a four-match ban, and received...

You know how destiny works, you know? If Leonardo had not been sent off, Brad Carter, that match, Branko would not have been called to play for Brazil, and maybe, you know, who knows...

That American team, by the way, had several players of South American origin, like Tab Ramos himself.

Tab, I was doing a little yard work this morning while taking calls, so I come in looking a little bit less spiffy than you for people who are watching on YouTube.

He's got a really nice fresh blue polo on.

And then I think like the team was, we were just bad that year.

And so I think Tab Ramos, who was the coach, he's just like, I can't, I got to save, try to save my job.

I got to play these guys that, that I know are, our pros at this point.

So I didn't play at all my rookie year.

So again, when Arsene Wenger's going, "Oh, why, why do we not play in the cities?" Some of that was a talent drain from the cities out to where these people could get paid more.

And that explains a lot of what's going on in the 1970s and 1980s, right? But we also have that holdover, right? That Kearny, New Jersey, with Tab Ramos, Tony Meola, John Harkes, that we've talked about on the show before.

There are these pockets.

Yeah, we still had, there were still those more urban-influenced spots where the game looked more like it did in the rest of the world.
