Ta'awwudh

قال الله تعالى وإما ينزغنك من الشيطان نزغ فاستعذ بالله إنه هو السميع العليم.

The first is seeking refuge and asking Allah to protect you from the shaitan, and that is at-Ta'awwudh.

When a person says, "A'udhu billahi minash shaitanir rajim," that I seek refuge in Allah from the shaitan, the accursed.

You ask Allah for refuge, for protection, for shelter from the shaitan.

Whisper of shaitan is involved.

Now, if the whisper of shaitan is involved, what do you immediately do? أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ And you keep doing this.

And then you stop.

Don't persist.

وَمِنْ شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدٍ And every believer needs to fight this urge of al-hasad.

How do you fight the hasad that's inside of you? You fight it first and foremost by saying أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ Al-hasad, envy, actually envy is when you hate Allah's blessing upon someone.

That's what envy is.

You see someone successful, you see someone has a house that's better than yours, a car better than yours, a wife better than yours, that's in your mind, thinking like that, children better than yours, living a life and a business better than yours.

That is what hasad is.

You need to fight this feeling if you find it.

How do you fight it? You say, أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ You make dua for that person right then and there.

You say, may Allah give him more.

After reciting the Tashahud, Ta'awwudh, and Surah Al-Fatihah, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V (may Allah be his Helper) stated: when Allah the Almighty made the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) a perfect man and established him as an excellent model for all mankind, He instilled every moral quality within his person, elevating each to the highest degree.

Furthermore, He instructed the believers that if you wish to develop virtuous qualities within yourselves and attain the highest standards of moral excellence, then you should follow this great messenger, as this would become the means by which they could attain the pleasure of God Almighty.

Where the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), in accordance with the commands of Allah the Almighty, elevated every moral quality to the highest standard, he also instructed the believers to strive to attain these lofty standards.

So in dhuhr, in asr, since the imam is reciting silently, the shafi'i followers should recite, you know, the...

Dua and Ta'awuz, Surah Fatiha and complete that.

After completing Surah Fatiha, you may also recite another Surah in the first two recites, although this is a Sunnah, not obligation.

In Fajr, Maghrib and Isha, even when the Imam is reciting aloud, the follower must still recite Surah Fatiha according to the Shafi Madhab.

Um, let's just read ayat thirty-two.

All right? أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ.

وَاضْرِبْ لَهُمْ مَثَلًا رَجُلَيْنِ جَعَلْنَا لِأَحَدِهِمَا جَنَّتَيْنِ.

جَنَّتَيْنِ مِنْ أَعْنَابٍ وَحَفَفْنَاهُمَا بِنَخْلٍ وَجَعَلْنَا بَيْنَهُمَا زَرْعًا That's short.

That is a dua.

The other one is, أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ And this happened at the time of Rasulullah ﷺ.

Two men were insulting each other, fighting with each other.

And that man was right in the face with bulging veins.

And the Messenger ﷺ, he said, I know of words that if he were to say, he will escape all of this.

أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ So this is something that you want to remember.

when you become angry and it seems out of control and it may lead you to do something that you may regret, say, أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ And not everybody who says أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ is actually saying it.

That's why for some people it doesn't work.
