In his book Mythologies, Roland Barthes studied how a sign picks up a second meaning that makes a human choice look natural.

He called that second meaning a myth.

Later, in his book The Fashion System, he read the captions in fashion magazines like Elle, lines like, "Prints win at the races." The caption never says who decided that prints are in this season.

It states the choice as a fact.

Helvetica carries a myth of the same kind.

Each row records one use of a word, who said it to whom, and the codes and myth it carries.

Sorted this way, words can be counted and tracked over time.
