That's John Warhurst's sort of summary in the introduction to your book, which follows your 2021 book, which I got a lot from, Leadership in a Synodal Church, that accompanied our plenary council as the global synod was gearing up.

And you do say in this book, leaving Rome, look, it's quite strong.

Can I come in there? I mean, it's a complex word, and I don't care if people in the pews don't use the word synodality.

My thing is, as long as they experience it, and your question, Geraldine, what is it? The first chapter that we wrote for this book was about mission.

Synodality, the walking together, the openness, the collaboration, it all has to have a purpose, and that purpose is focused on the mission, and that mission is the gospel.

The mission is that people hear about the surprising compassion of God.

You'll remember that I recently showed a clip on the channel of a bishop from Africa at the Synod on Synodality, the never-ending, decade-long synod that has now gone on for at least twice as long as Vatican II did, that he was talking about a paradigm shift in the Church, needing to take on new ways of being families and new ways of being Church, and yada, yada, yada.

I would say that the experience I had is of a church that is moving convincingly and joyfully to the full realization of the vision of the Second Vatican Council and the Synod on Synodality.
