Symphony No. 4

A church organist himself, he wrote symphonies as vast as cathedrals, ringing on and on without end.

Today we bring you his symphony number four, The Romantic.

Of his nine symphonies, it is the only one to which Bruckner himself gave a nickname.

In its first movement, over a faint shimmer in the strings, a single horn calls out from far away.

The brass join in, and the music grows into a great swell, resounding like a hall with a soaring ceiling.

a horn ringing through the morning forest.

Today, on the anniversary of Bruckner's death, we bring you the first movement of Symphony No. 4, The Romantic, for Windband.
