Correspondence between the county and MPD last month shows State Attorney General's Public Corruption Details Supervisor, David Van Acker, told the police department they had already been investigating claims by Ochiara and a second employee who is suing Bissen and the county for defamation, as well as other public corruption within Maui County.

Van Acker is known as the prosecutor who indicted Lieutenant Governor Sylvia Luke and other current and former government officials for alleged bribery.

The Ochiara case is getting renewed attention because Maui's Police Chief, John Pelletier, said in a press conference that Bissen is under investigation for a felony crime.

Pelletier wouldn't provide details, but said it is separate and unrelated to this lawsuit.

Um, we haven't had you on for a while, so I wanna tick through a few questions.

... who I know, uh, is now on unpaid leave but still receiving security detail and has not formally resigned the office.

And it'll weaken into a tropical storm, hopefully, maybe on Monday.

And, you know, late, late Monday into Tuesday, the acting governor, Sylvia Luke, issued, of course, an emergency proclamation saying, and declaring the state of emergency across the entire state because we don't know with these surges and the things that can happen.

People are taking it seriously, though.
