Sylvia Long

So let's get into these seed books.

Book number one is A Seed is Sleepy by Diana Hutz Aston, illustrated by Sylvia Long.

This book is a beautiful depiction of the rules of seeds for plants and relates seeds to human characteristics through personification.

Some of the topics covered in this book about plants include life cycles and stages, different ways that seeds travel, the parts of the seed and plant needs.

There's a simplistic storyline and large lettering that shares the human-like characteristics of seeds.

as well as more in-depth insets for older children capable of handling more information.

Sylvia Long's Nature Journal take on the illustrations make this a great book to help you introduce science notebooking, since many of the seeds are drawn, painted, and then labeled or include information alongside the illustration.

And if you love this book as much as I do, Diana Hutz-Aston and Sylvia Long have many other lovely books as part of their Nature Books series that hits on other topics.
