Swift water rescue

Queenslanders in the state's southeast are bracing for flash flooding, large hail and wind gusts of up to 90 kilometres per hour today, with two rounds of storms forecast.

Swift Water Rescue crews have saved two drivers stuck in floodwaters overnight amid dozens of calls for help made to the SES.

It comes after the region was lashed by wet weather late last week, causing flood warnings for river systems in the region.

Jimmy Erwin's instincts to immediately monitor the river level first thing that morning at the Chestoa Bridge matched that of his friend and captain of the swiftwater rescue team, Bart Ray.

Thought I was sitting on the river, like on the bridge.

Uh, a little bit later, we kinda watched that water, which was very violent already.

So, uh, Dr. Osherball and myself, we walked around and looked at a couple of different options, and I was like, "Hey, at this time we need to hire

hirehigh vehicle or we need some boats.

So I called and activated the, uh, regional, uh, swiftwater rescue team.

Uh, they were sending some boats over from Johnson City.
