Swain County

It all happened in North Carolina in a small place called Cherokee, and when I say Cherokee, I mean the actual reservation, not the tourist areas.

I lived back in the sticks of Swain County on a piece of land that was allotted to my family.

My dad had built a shack there.

It wasn't just one room, it was a couple of rooms, but that's where we lived for the first few years of my life.

Roadless rule updates have happened out in Swain County.

And then we're going to wrap up talking a little bit about the constitutional amendments related to property tax, as well as a famous Indian restaurant in Asheville that you and I have both been to being in the news.

And I just want to talk very briefly about a roadless rule update that has came to Swain County.

So listeners of the show probably are familiar with the roadless rule.

Montgomery County burned in eighteen thirty-five, eighteen forty, and eighteen eighty-six.

Swain County lost everything in eighteen seventy-nine.

Then in nineteen oh eight, a mob burned the courthouse during a riot.

No records were saved.

The Tuckasegee delayed harvest and the Upper Nantahala delayed, delayed harvest.

So we've got the Tuckasegee here in Jackson County and then of course over in Bryson City in Swain County.
