SV Darmstadt 98

Gladbach deservedly qualifying.

Alversburg 0, Darmstadt 2.

Quite the shock.

Not only because Alversburg are a Bundesliga side and Darmstadt are a fighter Bundesliga side.

But also because Alversburg are a fairly good Bundesliga side.

And Darmstadt are a very bad Schweizer Bundesliga side.

That's not how this game transpired though.

Because I guess both goals fairly coming against the run of play.

You know, we were talking about cup upsets and, well, one that we kind of didn't talk about that much was obviously the Elversburg result as well.

They lost in the Pokal and technically that can be classed as an upset as Darmstadt did them 2-0.

So they'll be obviously displeased with that but I don't think that Hocal is going to be any kind of focus or ever was going to be any kind of focus for the elf in the end.

So I think that's no, no amazing shock really in the end.

I think they'll have enough quality and will want to bounce back from their Pokal blip as well.

Yeah, there's a few really, really hard ones to tip this weekend, and this is one of them in my eyes, because you could make claims for both teams to win this game, to be honest, because as you say, both suffered disappointing losses midweek.

But one thing I will add is that Elversburg did rest quite a few for that game against Darmstadt, whereas Mainz went very strong, surprisingly, against...

They did, yeah.

3-2 over Union Berlin.

Elversburg, 4-3 over Darmstadt, who some of you remember this story when my youngest daughter was very young, 4-5.

She got a kick out of trying to pronounce Darmstadt and would call it damn stick, and she knew exactly what she was doing, even at 4-5.

So I'll never forget that club.

You've got Dynamo Dresden.

Final game to mention and it's the big one so we'll just go into it immediately.

Karsra for Darmstadt 0.

I mean, absolutely wild that, well, first of all, Karlsruhe won a game, I guess.

That's the first surprise.

I can't remember if we covered that on the podcast or not, but anyway.

So a season of transition are not a surprise that they've been struggling.

That is of course until this game where they absolutely smacked Darmstadt.

And it was an overwhelming performance and a very convincing performance as well.

A quick recap of the results starting off on Friday night which was... deeply unentertaining I watched the Heidenheim game against Kaiserslautern I wish I hadn't that match finished nil nil the other game I dropped Braunschweig one Holstein Kiel nil Jan Urbic scoring the only goal of the game in the 11th minute Holstein Kiel still very much in trouble and bottom of the Sveita Bundesliga.

Darmstadt 3, Energy Cottbus 1, a much needed win for Darmstadt.

A win which I do believe did take them off bottom of the league.

I don't know why I said it like that but yeah they were bottom not anymore.

Aleksandar Vukatic with a first.

And then Yannick Leurs from the Planet Omicron Perseid 8 scoring in the 88th minute to seal the victory.

Two wins in three matches now for Darmstadt.

They are starting to move.
