Sutton

Flatwoods is a small community in Braxton County, right in the heart of central West Virginia.

It sits in the hills near the Elk River, just off Interstate 79, a short drive from the town of Sutton, which is the county seat.

It's the kind of place where everybody knows everybody, and where the mountains stand so close they seem to lean in and listen.

West Virginia has never been shy about its monsters.

If you're a fan of the legend, you're in for a treat.

A visit to Flatwoods, if you'd like to see Flatwoods for yourself, you'll find it right off Interstate seventy-nine in central West Virginia, so it's an easy stop if you're traveling through the state.

The Flatwoods Monster Museum is located in Sutton, and it's free to visit.

It's packed with information about the nineteen fifty-two sighting, along with plenty of memorabilia and an excellent look at the history of the legend.

There's a welcome sign calling Flatwoods Home of the Green Monster.

And five giant monster-shaped chairs scattered around the county that you can go sit in and take pictures with.

And somewhere in there, he picked up the name Braxy.

I mean, so the ones we read are cryptozoological.

There are additional Bigfoot destinations for people like West Virginia Bigfoot Museum, which is in the same town in Sutton, the same town that has the Flatwood Monsters Museum.

So you might get a twofer there.
