There is continuing speculation, as you heard from Lisa in the papers this morning, about excise duty, carbon tax and more.

With us to discuss is Hannah Daly, Professor of Sustainable Energy at University College Cork, and Ciarán McCarthy, Director of KMC Homes, a house building company in Cork.

And Ciarán is also an engineer.

Ciarán and Hannah, thank you both very much for joining us on Morning Ireland today.

Like it's worth, if you're any way interested in doing it, it's worth getting a home energy assessment by a deep retrofit company, a one-stop shop company.

And you might find out that there's a lot less work involved in bringing your house up to today's regulations and make it heat pump ready, you know.

One thing that's very striking to me from what both of you said is that the infrastructure that we did build in the last century is no longer fit for purpose in this century.
