Jerry Steuerman, the business partner the teenager was adamant was the real perpetrator, completely vanished.

Even with this disappearing act, the detective still refused to consider him as a suspect, claiming that though the move added more questions to the case, he had nothing to do with the murder, so it didn't raise any red flags for him.

Jerry was eventually found in Long Beach, California two weeks later living under an alias.
