Susan McDougal

I will tell you, virtually everybody, virtually everybody, including lawyers in my office, lawyers who ended up working on the case, told me, "Do not take this." I was coming off of a, basically a seven-year streak of not losing a case.

I had won back-to-back Susan MacDougall on both coasts, uh, not guiltys against kind of all odds.

I had had a incredible, uh, streak and everybody said, "Look, if you win the case, you're a pariah ala Johnnie Cochran." You know, Johnnie, people forget.

After OJ, Johnnie didn't wanna do another criminal case again.

So-

So they end up partnering up with their friends, Jim and Susan McDougal, to buy 230 acres of land along the White River in the Ozarks, basically to set up, like, lots and everything for vacation homes.

And I mean, as far as that goes, that's something that kind of anybody with money to invest could possibly go in on.

So not, not that innocuous as far as, like, a real estate transaction goes.

Um, back in Whitewater-ville, the attorney general, Janet Reno, appoints a man named Robert Fisk in 1995 as a special prosecutor to investigate the leg- ah, blah, the legality of the Whitewater transactions.

There were two allegations.

One of them stemmed from a November 1992 allegation that the president, then Attorney General Clinton, had exerted pressure on a businessman named David Hale to allow this illegal $300,000 loan to Susan McDougal, Jim McDougal's wife.

Um, then Clinton exerted a little bit more pressure to potentially get another loan.
