Super Mario Galaxy 2

It matters because it's widely held up as one of the best-reviewed games ever made, and because it showed that Mario could still find completely new ground to run on more than a decade after he went 3D.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 followed three years later, in 2010.

And there's some of like the best best rated Mario games like if you look at aggregate ratings which of course doesn't exactly account for the old stuff because we didn't have ratings back then but in the modern age I think Super Mario Galaxy 2 cracked the top 10 and Super Mario Galaxy is just behind it I think in the teens so.

Yeah the Galaxy games are fantastic and you know honestly it's Mario Galaxy 2 in particular was a little surprising just because the track record at that point in time for 3D Mario games was you'll get one a generation and you'll be thankful.

So then to have a second one in a relatively short time was quite a delight.

I was prepared.

Mario Galaxy 2.

This is a weird one because I don't think that it's you can argue whether or not improves on the first one.

I would say that it's more like a different paced experience, but it offers more rapid switch ups and varied ideas level to level from the first one.

Dragon Ball 2.

Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Yeah.

Mass Effect 2.

I think they both have their pros and cons.

My opinion, which a lot of people share, is the vibes in Mario Galaxy 1 are better, but the gameplay in Mario Galaxy 2 are better.

And so what that means is, yeah, that's that's basically like Nintendo's official kind of midnight launch event.

But because we're in California, it's 9 p.m. And I have fond memories of going to one of those before I had anything like whatever this job or the last one was for, I believe, I want to say it was Super Mario Galaxy 2 in New York City.

Reggie Fils-Aimé was there and it was so cold out, just freezing cold.

And I think that one was also midnight.

That's not even on the top 10 anymore.

So you've got Mario Galaxy 2 in number 3.

GTA 4 in 4th.

Mario Galaxy 1 in 5th.

either, but I liked it a lot.

I'm coming off of Galaxy, which is still one of the highlights for me, and Galaxy 2.

And so those two I thought were probably peak Mario of the last few generations.

But I liked Odyssey a lot.

But Odyssey, it felt more like a core Mario to me than Galaxy did.

I always loved Galaxy.

I think Galaxy 2 is better than Galaxy 1, but they're both fantastic.

Odyssey, I think, is awesome.
