Super Mario Bros. 3

I remember the gal who talked to me at length about Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?, and the guy who swore by Earthworm Jim 2.

Someone else went on and on about Simpsons: Hit & Run, and somebody else talked to me about how Super Mario Bros. 3 got them through their childhood.

While I love talking about my podcast, I think this was one of my favorite parts of the whole experience.

I'm going to create a tradition out of this [laughs], I think, and I wanna continue to do this if I'm ever brought back to more conventions.

... again, just for my, me personally, it balanced out to where I felt like it was, it was enough saves that I never felt like, "Oh my God, I have to replay that whole section.

I'm so annoyed." And it's also not like, you know, Mario 3 where you have to replay the whole world from the beginning, or Mario 1 or Sonic where you have to start the whole game from the beginning.

Mm-hmm.

Like, it is weird, especially since we're in the PlayStation era and obviously saves are very, very, very possible at this point.

I don't know.

There's something also, though, in terms of the, like, how much does this game encourage you to explore within your platforming thing.

Maybe it's because I've been playing later levels of Mario 3 recently on stream, but there is something about it that...

And, and these are still early levels, even relative to, like, the original Mario.

However, the story in VII is legendary Um, games he's double dipped in or whatever, or multiple versions.

Uh, Super Mario Bros. 3.

He remembers getting the game on the, in fourth grade and taking the box to sch- wait, hold on.

Oh, that's the box art one.

I gotta start writing these down like next to me.

... it's a DVD on a DVD player that has no network connectivity, right? Like, LG could still figure that out from those snapshots.

If I hooked up a Nintendo to that, a Nintendo Entertainment Center, it could take snapshots and say, "Hey, Ishmobile is playing Super Mario Brothers 3." Like, it could figure that out.

And so that's ACR.

You can usually turn that off.

Like, I, I didn't beat any of those legacy titles until way later.

Like, I, Mario One, Mario Two, Mario Three, never, I haven't, I didn't beat those until my 20s.

Yeah.

So like, as a kid, I just wanted to, you know-

And when he would come over here to sleep over, you know, it was kind of like a few video games.

But going over to his house, he had, you know, Super Mario 2, Super Mario 3.

And just... a ton of you know transylvania all these really cool video games great references buddy yeah and uh contra but uh go over there and play and i remember his mom would walk into his walk into his bedroom and you know he's sleeping in his bed and i'm i'm there like a zombie just like ripping through the games because i'm like i never get to play these it's like So it's like 2.30 in the morning.

It's like, you should go to bed.
