And then I became the eye doctor during session to all the legislators who came.

And then Governor Perry appointed me the State Board of Educators certification, and Lieutenant Governor Dewhurst put me on the Sunset Commission.

And I realized then how much stronger your voice is being the elected official with the vote.

I call it in the ropes versus outside of the ropes.

And about that time, Governor Perry put me on the State Board of Educator Certification, and the educators on that board elected me their vice chair.

And then Lieutenant Governor Dewhurst put me as the public member on the Sunset Commission.

And my school board seat came up, so I ran for the school board.

It was on Lake Travis ISD.
