The Art of War by Sun Tzu, translated by Lionel Giles.

Part 1.

Laying Plans Sun Tzu said, The art of war is of vital importance to the state.

It is a matter of life and death, a road either to safety or to ruin.

Hence it is a subject of inquiry which can on no account be neglected.

Thus do many calculations lead to victory and few calculations to defeat.

How much more no calculation at all? It is by attention to this point that I can foresee who is likely to win or lose.

And then you also mentioned the, the each song, which is, I think a very ancient Chinese texts.

And I know that has connections to things like, you know, Sun Tzu is the art of war and tying this back to things like war and things like that and tactics.

Yeah.

What do you think the future holds for you in terms of, you know, just doing further research on classic board games, on the history of Go? Are there any particular artifacts or texts or cultures that you're interested in or you might be going towards?

Well, I thought you were implying the Sun Tzu book, The Art of War.

No, I've read part of that.

The intro? No, I've read like three chapters.

And so in reading it, in understanding and certainly coming from that intelligence background, certainly those questions, you know, how do you understand yourself? How do you understand the enemy? Are clear and echo.

It's worth noting across military cultures at the same time, thousands of miles away Sun Tzu's writing these things in China, you've got totally disconnected Romans writing the exact same thing when considering the challenges of how a general is going to win.

Sure way is to understand your own forces, understand the enemy.

That's a pretty good path to victory.

Mm.

According to Sun Tzu.

According to Sun Tzu, it is in fact best to shit your diaper and wait for your enemy to come to you.

Sun Tzu and the art of the deal, that's, that's when he said it.

[laughs] Oh, that'd be-

Uh, is that it?

Right.

And Sun Tzu says the superior warrior is one who is able to win the battle of the war without ever fighting.

And so if you're able to essentially get ahead of it and think about and one of the key questions that are often not asked by lawyers early on.

with our clients, but as a mediator, we can sort of think through it as like, let's imagine three to five years down the road, and let's imagine we win, or let's imagine we lose.

Um, but as, uh, I think the, uh, motto of, of the edge, uh, Amat Victoria Corum, uh, victory loves the prepared, something like that.

Uh, I also follow the, uh, Sun Tzu, every battle is won before it's ever fought.

And it's all about preparation.

And the amount of preparation that went into this case was tremendous.

Sun Zi said, The art of war is of vital importance to the state.

They would learn the ways of the warrior.

They'd each get a copy of Sun Tzu.

Okay.

And a pattern.
