Summer stock theater

You're familiar with that, right?

And it was, this was in my senior year of college, and everybody that was, wanted to do summer stock as actors and all.

Then I did too, I thought I was gonna be, wanted to be an actor at that time until I actually realized I was terrible.

But uh, I figured this is ridiculous.

But yeah, I thought I was going to be a lawyer.

Then when I was in college, I was at Amherst and I auditioned for Summerstock up in Weston.

And when I got back, Ambrose was doing West Side Story.

And I was just going to audition.

And she got to Broadway with Blood Brothers.

And then when Mum moved to America, Mum was doing Summerstock and regional theatre.

Mum played Fraulein Schneider in Cabaret and she did Dolly and stuff like that.

But it was just that their paths never crossed.

I did a

lot of Summer Stock and New Jersey, Paramus Playhouse, if I remember the name of it, and the Poconos, done a lot of summer tours.

And you famously were playing a sister with Bette Midler during that time.

Bette was already in the show when I went in, yes.

It's like, it wasn't easy.

I was, you know, I worked for a, I worked in an Italian mob joint for eight weeks, eight months before I forgot my first summer stock job.

I didn't have an agent.

I didn't, I wasn't in the union.

I mean, I was going to do some

performances.

Yeah, Summer Stock, if you don't know what it is, basically it's a crew of people that do a number of plays over the period of summer so that they get all of the experience and people get to see shows.

And it's a wonderful system.

We had this absolutely beautiful off-Broadway show.

One of the writers I had met doing summer stock in the '90s, and phenomenally talented, and we brought this show to off-Broadway.
