In Dublin with UCD, they run a really good international summer school every year.
Lorna JohnsonGUEST
32:10
You know, so there's been a variety of different immersion experiences as well as the regular day-to-day Irish.
Lorna JohnsonGUEST
32:17
And that's probably where I'm at now.
Brett WhitefieldHOST
36:34
Here's, uh, here's what I think we should do.
Brett WhitefieldHOST
36:35
So I do something called Summer School every year for Fantasy Points employees, where they can come.
Brett WhitefieldHOST
36:41
You know, we do, we start with, like, run game 101, then we build that out to run game, all the way up to run game 301.
Brett WhitefieldHOST
36:45
These are, like, two-hour-long classes.
Allison CarmanHOST

Elaine Poker-YountGUEST

And, um, at the, I worked for a private dorm at this particular time in life, and every summer we had 325 to 350 seniors that came to a program called Senior Summer School.
Allison CarmanHOST
2:01
Oh, neat.
Elaine Poker-YountGUEST

And, and we, they, they had college and, um, college and university programs all across the country where they would go for two, four, six, up to 12 weeks each summer.
Dusty ThunderHOST
36:05
I said, "If we're already gonna change her schedule, let's get her in the math class with a teacher that isn't useless." They kept insisting that they can't do that.
Dusty ThunderHOST
36:12
Long story short, she has first period off next semester, and she'll make up math in summer school.
Dusty ThunderHOST
36:17
Told my husband how the meeting went, and he said I should've let it go instead of making my daughter go to summer school.
Dusty ThunderHOST
36:22
My daughter's also upset that she has to go to summer school, so I wanted to know if I was the ass穴." Thoughts, mamacita?
Candy ThunderHOST
36:30
Um, I don't, it, I don't know.
Candy ThunderHOST
36:34
It's weird, um, because on one hand you do want your child to learn, um, but on the other hand she knows what this teacher is capable of, and I don't like that she refers to her use- as useless because her daughter-
Candy ThunderHOST
37:39
Yeah.
Dusty ThunderHOST
37:39
I don't know.
Albert MenkveldGUEST

Albert MenkveldGUEST
46:31
yes maybe the audience yeah we sometimes have really good people from industry attending the summer school.
Albert MenkveldGUEST
46:36
So it's a one-week summer school that I teach with Thierry Foucault of RGC Paris.
Albert MenkveldGUEST
46:41
We've been teaching that for 10 years, and increasingly we have practitioners, people from central banks and governments, but most of them are PhD students, I have to say.
Albert MenkveldGUEST
46:50
But I heard back from the industry people that they took away a lot of it.
Albert MenkveldGUEST
46:54
So we'll talk about all of these things in depth in one week.
Albert MenkveldGUEST
46:58
Amazing.
Mark TaylorHOST
19:58
I sort of love all aspects of that kind of thing.
Mark TaylorHOST
20:03
From a completely outsider's point of view, let's take the summer school as an example.
Mark TaylorHOST
20:10
I guess everybody has a range of skills and a range of sort of parts of this which they're passionate about.
Mark TaylorHOST
20:16
So I guess just take us through a little bit about what that might look like.
Sinan Barış YaşarHOST
48:39
[outro jingle][outro jingle] And in tradition, I also ask one final question about to take your actually personal reflections.
Sinan Barış YaşarHOST
49:12
And in your case, I'd like to also mention that you are one of the contributing professors of the META United Nations Summer School, the Resilience of Multilateralism in Times of Uncertainty.
Sinan Barış YaşarHOST
49:24
So it was a really successful and really insightful initiation.
Sinan Barış YaşarHOST
49:28
And I'd like to ask you what motivated you to develop this summer school for PhD students and early career researchers, of course, and would you like to share some of your experiences?
Dorota HeidrichGUEST
49:38
Yes, of course.
Dorota HeidrichGUEST
49:39
I would like to share them because I think it's a very important project.
Dorota HeidrichGUEST
49:43
And I want to say that the summer school is organized under the META United Nations Outreach Project, which is an interdisciplinary project based in the University of Copenhagen, but is financed from the 4EU+ Alliance money, and the idea to organize a summer school for PhD and early career researchers came up among the steering committee from the 4EU+ Alliance universities that formed the META UN Outreach Project Steering Committee.
Dorota HeidrichGUEST
50:13
And we decided that we want to organize a school for PhD scholars to somehow promote the idea of multilateralism and how can we respond to the challenges that are now placed to the multilateral system.
Andy GemmillGUEST
39:31
Uh-
Josh JohnstonHOST
39:31
There's a Cornhill Summer School, which is slightly, it's like a longer thing of, of a few days in dipping in.
Josh JohnstonHOST
39:35
So we've had people who've come to some of these things, come to a number of them, and that's been part of the path that's, it's like, I mean, it's not like that's the only way, but that's, that's something for people to feel their way.
Josh JohnstonHOST
39:45
But if you've, if you're seriously thinking about it, if you've been involved in ministry in the church and you're thinking, "Actually, do you know what? I would like to test this out.
