Little did I know when I first heard the goth metal cover of this song back in 1993 that one day I would be the public face or a public face for an internet soft rock revival where people would be much likelier to associate me with the original version, which I don't think I'd heard then and certainly would not have sought out in high school.

Type O Negative was one of the most popular goth metal bands in no small part because many of their songs amounted to goths making merciless fun of goths, including themselves.

This helped Bloody Kisses become the first gold-selling album in long-running underground metal label Roadrunner Records' entire history.

Type O Negative liked to make things sound slow and depressing and dirgey was what they were best at, so they hit upon the idea of doing an ironic tongue-in-cheek cover of an unlikely song where they would make it real slow and depressing.

So why not the Seals and Croft soft rock classic Summer Breeze, since Type O Negative's sound is the complete opposite of that title? Originally, they were going to do a tongue-in-cheek rewrite like with Hey Pete, but Seals and Cross denied permission, likely over a verse where a summer girl spreads her legs for Peter Steele, or maybe the verse where Peter Steele steps over his passed-out guitar player's vomit.

So they just straight up covered it instead, which is funnier in the end, because Peter Steele sings it like a suicidal vampire, which makes the part in the chorus where the summer breeze makes him feel fine hilariously ironic, because he sounds like he's never felt fine in his life, and that if he even so much as walked past some blooming jasmine, it would immediately wither and die cartoon style.

Uh, one last song I want to ask you about too is, uh, And honestly, if it wasn't for cry for you, it would be my favorite, but because it's a cover, I don't want to say that.

I love your interpretation of summer breeze.

It's kind of the, you take the, the seals and cross version and you take the type O version and you meet somewhere in the middle.

And that's what you did.

And that song, I've never done a cover in my life, my whole career, because I write so much.
