Sumatriptan

I think they're fantastic for fixing root causes.

So I think that a prescription medication, a triptan or a deep pants Triptans being Imitrex, Maxil, Relpax, et cetera, GPNs being Nertek, Ubrel-V, QLipta.

I think those work a lot better to take them away in the short run, even naproxen, you know, simple over-the-counter anti-inflammatory is going to work better.

Um, in terms of the herbs, not a fan of feverfew just because it only reduces headaches by about one day a month.

And some doctors actually are now using Botox to paralyze the neck muscles to relieve headaches.

And thankfully for some, there's a new class of medication called triptans, things like Imitrex, Maxalt, and Zomeg that can stop a migraine once it starts.

But these have made migraine sufferers handle attacks better, but they also have serious side effects and are very expensive, costing about $1.2 billion a year.

Now, other treatments can lead to addiction, independence, things like narcotics, which are not great.

I mean, you're suffering.

If we can knock a migraine out with Imitrex, great.

If we can knock a migraine out today with an IV of magnesium, great.

So you can go be a mom or dad or do your work, whatever.

So you might be prescribed medications such as what we call Triptan.

So there's things like Sumatriptan.

Now, these actually work best when you take them at the very start, so the onset of the pain, not during your aura phase.

Occasionally, we also might prescribe anti-sickness tablets.

I think it's know how many people don't under you know understand the relationship between your diet and sleep and vice versa you know if you sleep poorly you tend to make poor choices in your diet because you're more insulin resistant it's harder to get energy and then conversely if you're eating poorly it negatively impacts your sleep you know whether it's reflux or any other issues that are called you know if it's causing chronic pain you know as far as it's interesting you you said the migraine sort of sort of resolved and you said you'd been having what up to a dozen 20 a month or something.

What was the, was there ever like, they want to put you on meds for the migraines, Imitrex or one of the other various migraine meds were you ever offered? So

I tried Imitrex.

And the problem that I have with a lot of the migraine meds was that it affected me cardiac wise.

I felt like my heart was going to beat out of my chest.

Yeah.

Mine was with that was Imitrex.

Imitrex had a shot, a pill, and a nasal spray.

And my sadistic doctor at the time was like, we're going to do the nasal spray.

And then it's just like, you can't taste anything but that for a day.

There can be dangerous interactions with other drugs that are often used in the same kinds of patients, and these include serotonin syndrome, which can be lethal.

The things to watch out for are antidepressants, citalopram, fluoxetine, sertraline, duloxetine, and m- migraine medications like sumatriptan and rizatriptan.

That's Imitrex and Maxalt in the United States.

There are a lot of different forms of buprenorphine available now.

I won't go into those here, but I will include them in the show notes.

But, uh, basically I went to the doctor and I said, "Look, I've been suffering with these terrible headaches." Um, and she said, "Yeah, no worries.

Look, we think it could be migraines." So we started with Imigran.

They were the first tablets I've tried, so they thought they'd help.

So I remember we were going on our first holiday since we had our daughter.

Um, she would, she would've been about, about 4 at the time, so it was our first break away together.

Um, and I remember the Imigran didn't work, so I was kind of panicking thinking, "Geez, what if I still have these terrible headaches when we go on holidays?" Like, and it was during COVID as well, of course, so you know, it was strange times as it was, but-

... uh, the Imigran tablets didn't work, obviously.
