Sufyan ibn ʽUyaynah

The greatest favor and blessing Allah has bestowed upon His slaves is that He has taught them لا إله إلا الله.

This is from the statement of Sufyan bin ‘Uyaynah, Rahimahullah, he died in one ninety-eight.

So the point is now that this is how Allah makes a believer firm in this life.

That whenever doubts and misconceptions come, they don't, they don't affect him.

Alright, here, let's go through the chain real quick.

Who's Sufyan? Huh? Sufyan ibn Uyaynah? What about Sufyan al-Thawri? You sure about that?

Excellent.

So if you had Ibn Uyayna, there's two ways to know it.

So he was not satisfied and was very restless.

So Sufyan bin Uyainah was giving him comfort, he was not getting comfort.

So Fuzail bin Ayaz came and said, my dear, let me tell you something.

You and your son are in jail.

Notice that Allah begins with knowledge and then commands action.

Imam Al-Qurtubi mentions that it is reported from Sufyan ibn Uyayna that he was asked about the virtue of knowledge.

He said, Have you not heard how Allah began with knowledge when He said, So know that there is no God worthy of worship except Allah and seek forgiveness for your sin.

He commanded action after knowledge.

We have to have certainty that that's what he said.

So we have historical record on the ijtihad of Sufyan ath-Thawri, of Hasan al-Basri, of, uh, Al-Awza'i, of Sufyan ibn Uyaynah.

But in religion, wa la taqfu ma laysa laka bihi ilm.

Don't take an action, a stand on something unless you have absolute certainty.

But basically, what he writes here is that al-fitna that will move like the waves of the sea.

And so he says here that, um, Ibn Uyaynah, uh...

And it's not translated in sunnah.com.

Uh, Ibn Uyaynah, uh, narrates from Khalif- Khalaf bin Hawshab that kanu yastahibuna.

Uh, the kanu here is referring to the Salaf.

The Salaf used to love an yatamathalu bi hadhihil abiyat.
