Sufjan Stevens

Yeah.

Because I do like you've put Sufjan Stevens down here.

You've mentioned a couple of times, which we'll talk about maybe best gig as well.

Again, that sound is ever so slightly different.

I just can't get enough of that song.

That's Chicago by Sufjan Stevens.

My apologies to my friend Sid Cohen while talking over the end of the song.

There you go.

I have this game, you know, whatever, I'm in some bands and in the van you come up with games.

And I will ask my guest this, but one of the games is if you were going down in an airplane and you had headphones on and some sort of Walkman or your phone somehow had magic service or you had an iPod, what song would you listen to next? on your descent.

And mine is Chicago by Sufjan Stevens.

which is a little long for a descent of a plane, but it's sugar.

The words came almost at the same time, which is quite rare in my house, in general the words come later.

And it was only after that I called Ben Lanz, the musician who helped me make the album, who has been playing with The National for 20 years and also with Beirut, who was one of the founders of Beirut, who played with Sufjan Stevens.

In short, a really brilliant multi-instrumentalist who took hold of the song right away.

And we were joined by Antoine Pinet, who has always been my guitarist.

Thank you.

So after Elvis Costello pondered who paid for the crimes of Paris, Sufjan Stevens gave us his interpretation of Joni Mitchell's Free Man in Paris.

Stevens explained his unique cover, quote, I could not even presume to fathom the jazz voicing of the original, nor could I traverse the pronunciation of French avenues or Joni's rollercoaster vocal lines.

My approach... was much more primitive.
