So I spoke to Colin Mackay, who is the political editor for STV News, which is ITV Wales's Scottish equivalent, and I asked him what he made of the event.

I thought it was really interesting.

I mean, obviously this is the first time you've had a press conference with all three nationalist first ministers together signing a memorandum of understanding with some pretty strong language in it that they think Westminster is coming to an end, for example.

Mm.

Uh, mm, I got a commission for, um, a Scottish, uh, STV, Scottish Television, um, uh, to write.

They were doing a scheme at the time of, um, plays by first-time writers, which is wonderful.

Uh, so I got one of those.

But I was tickled by a bit of social media content this week.

And frankly, it's a pretty lackluster contest, almost unavoidably so, partly because the party is traumatized, partly because if a lot of the parliamentary party, and it was already a small parliamentary party, is further diminished, you've got a limited range of candidates to choose from.

But when the money side of things starts to restrict the creativity, that's what I find sad.

Tell us then, how did you end up at

STV? Well, in my four-year course, you got a chance to go into the industry and get some experience.

So in my third year at college, I got to go to Scottish Television and I was there for two months.

He is now set to return to the airwaves as a presenter on BBC Scotland's Scotcast, the current affairs programme published on BBC Sounds and BBC iPlayer, and broadcast on BBC Radio Scotland, BBC One Scotland and the BBC Scotland Channel.

The presenter, who was the main anchor of STV's news coverage in central Scotland, We'll take the helm later this month while regular presenter Martin Geisler is away.

The guy, who will begin presenting the podcast on Monday, August 24th, will work with the ScottCast production team at BBC Scotland's Pacific Quay headquarters in Glasgow.

He said, I'm really looking forward to working with the ScottCast team.

The podcast has set the standards in Scotland and I relish the challenge of maintaining them in my time filling in.

I'm already feeling the buzz of returning to the studio.

Mackay began his broadcasting career with BBC Scotland and moved to STV in 1994, where he remained until this year.

During his stint as a guest presenter, the broadcaster will lead discussions on the stories shaping Scotland, joined by the podcast's regular team of journalists, commentators and guests, BBC Scotland said.

Just reflecting on a career in broadcasting because you'd left STV where you'd been forever.
