Now, the thing to keep in mind is the valuable asset isn't the episodes, it's the format.
Richard OsmanHOST
29:16
I would, I, I could immediately, if I was y- you as a producer, there would be 10 names above my name on the list for the show.
Richard OsmanHOST
29:23
Anyway, Golden Elevators comes in from Studio Lambert, who are the makers of Race Across the World, Traitors, Celebrity Traitors, Gogglebox.
Richard OsmanHOST
29:31
I mean, uh, Squid Game: The Challenge.
Richard OsmanHOST
29:33
Just huge shows.
Richard OsmanHOST
33:18
... and that's Talpa.
Richard OsmanHOST
33:19
But, uh, as I say, Jas- Jasper, uh, Hoogendoorn came up with the show.
Richard OsmanHOST
33:24
It's being made by Studio Lambert, who make all these amazing big shows.
Richard OsmanHOST
33:29
Uh, and it's made in, uh, Antwerp or just outside Antwerp at a place called AED Studios.
Amol RajanGUEST
2:51
So you basically go up...
Amol RajanGUEST
2:53
They did something really clever this year, the makers, Studio Lambert, who are genuinely geniuses.
Amol RajanGUEST
2:57
They announced who was gonna be in it a few days before we started filming.
Benedict TownsendHOST
3:02
Mm-hmm.

12 MINS LATER

Amol RajanGUEST
14:54
So that, that's the weird thing.
Amol RajanGUEST
14:55
You just want to come across well, and you know that the power is with the editors.
Amol RajanGUEST
14:58
But, you know, in fairness to Studio Lambert, I think they've done an amazing job.
Amol RajanGUEST
15:01
And they do need, you know, they do need to create a show which has got a plot and a sense of jeopardy, and so they do need to b- you know, use the bits of you that help propel that jeopardy along, and that's fine.
Ashley DickHOST
3:25
This iteration of it, I believe, stemmed from a company in the Netherlands.
Ashley DickHOST
3:29
Studio Lambert have refined the show as we know it now.
Ashley DickHOST
3:34
But it has stemmed from there.
Ashley DickHOST
3:35
However, this actually was on the BBC back in the noughties.

Do you
Jamie MackinlayHOST
10:15
know what one of the funnest jobs, well definitely to interview somebody that makes this show at some point because I'd love to find out all the behind the scenes.
Jamie MackinlayHOST
10:21
I met somebody at the TV festival yesterday that i was in visionaries with she works with studio lambert and i got a wee bit of insight um just like you know just hearing about stuff but i think one of the funnest jobs must be like testing the game before the like contestants arrive like they do a whole run through i think that must be so fun
Ashley DickHOST
10:37
i know it must be a great atmosphere like being there and
Matthew KeeleyHOST
29:00
Alan says, great start to the season, despite the shorter episodes.
Matthew KeeleyHOST
29:04
Someone else had mentioned that too, right? Studio Lambert, it's probably Alan and his voice note earlier, says, Alan, this is not us making fun of you.
Matthew KeeleyHOST
29:12
I absolutely love getting your messages.
Matthew KeeleyHOST
29:14
Studio Lambert's production is the best.
Matthew KeeleyHOST
29:16
The shipwreck, the music, the editing, top marks as ever.
Matthew KeeleyHOST
29:19
And although that's not a question, it just made me think that, firstly, maybe I'm biased.
Matthew KeeleyHOST
29:28
I agree.
Matthew KeeleyHOST
29:29
I think that Studio Lambert, who co-produce the UK version and the US version of do such an outstanding job of creating the show and actually this might be a good place to mention I've been in touch with one of the art directors who's worked on a few seasons of the trailer so someone who works on on set and creates some of the set pieces and the beautiful objects and interiors of the castle uh and we're probably gonna talk on the podcast i'm gonna ask them to come on we'll do an interview um and get some behind the scenes info on the look and the appearance of the show uh but david my question to you is uh is alan right that studio lambert's production is the best compared to some of the other countries that we've seen like do we think there's something extra special in the uk and us seasons
Shubham GoelGUEST
16:53
there's a lot of moving pieces.
Shubham GoelGUEST
16:55
I always told Netflix and Studio Lambert, The Circle, everyone involved, I always said like, I had the time of my life playing season one.
Shubham GoelGUEST
17:05
And for me, it was like, it changed my life it's one of the most maybe the most incredible experience of my whole life so i said i would go to mount everest and back i would climb it 15 times to play this game again i absolutely loved the game again so there were moving pieces um and they reached out and i was like absolutely i was super stoked i was super grateful to play the game i love again and i was just i was ecstatic
PhilHOST
17:30
Well, you and I think the world collectively were excited to have you return, as was I.
Lucy HoughHOST
5:14
Mm-hmm.
Scott BryanGUEST
5:15
Studio Lambert, they are a powerhouse in British broadcasting.
Scott BryanGUEST
5:18
They also do-
Lucy HoughHOST
5:19
Yeah
HugoGUEST
33:48
Yeah.
HugoGUEST
33:48
And obviously she may have been referring to Wink Murder or Werewolves and Villagers, which I think, I think Studio Lambert, and indeed the ones who own the format.
HugoGUEST
33:56
It, it, it is a parlor game, isn't it? Just on a grand sort of Hollywood production style scale.
Calum MacdonaldHOST
34:01
Yeah.
speaker_4HOST
12:37
And Richard Osman corroborates this shift, noting he heard from Season 2 participants that filming was, quote, "intense."
speaker_3HOST
12:43
Quite intense coming from Osman feels like a massive understatement, especially because Deadline then introduces their own sources who describe the production of Season 2 for Studio Lambert as a literal nightmare.
speaker_4HOST
12:55
To understand why a television set turns into a nightmare, we really have to look at the baseline established in Season 1.
speaker_3HOST
13:02
Okay, take us back to Season 1.

speaker_4HOST
20:43
No, you are managing the foundational pillar of the network's annual strategy.
speaker_3HOST
20:46
You are holding the golden goose.
speaker_4HOST
20:48
And the institutional pressure on Kalpana Patel-Knight, and by extension the production team at Studio Lambert, becomes practically incalculable.
speaker_3HOST
20:56
Because you can't just let those numbers drop in season two.
Richard OsmanHOST
47:33
Of course they're not given them, and so everyone is nervous because they, you know, because they are professionals, and they do understand, "Oh, what if they just keep in that one thing that I did, but and they don't keep in that thing?" So everyone will worry.
Richard OsmanHOST
47:43
I, I think 'cause the way Studio Lambert make television and the way that the BBC will edit it, everyone's going to be okay.
Richard OsmanHOST
47:49
But people are naturally paranoid beforehand because of course you go to sleep and you wake up thinking, "Oh my God, what if I'm edited in this way, and this is such a huge deal, and it's such a huge program, and what if this is not understood?" So I absolutely get it.
Richard OsmanHOST
48:02
I, I, I don't think it will, will be an issue.
