you know you know exactly and it just doesn't say it wouldn't to me when you listen to pennywise you want to hear a pennywise song you know you don't you don't want to hear anything completely different and it's like tom what you're about you
T

could you can evolve you can't you can't change but you can evolve so if you go from like point a to b over three albums four albums and it's like okay this is where we've been going yeah like like strung out a band a bit like that, you know, they started off one thing.
T
32:27TomGUEST
If you went from their first record to some of their later records, it might be jarring.
T
32:31TomGUEST
But when you've been along the whole journey, you're like, okay, I can see, I can see where the evolution is, where the growth's coming.

not not really that actively thinking about it i just kind of started trying to try and expand expand my um my horizons a bit you know i mean as i got older i was just like there's a lot of stuff i've been missing out on over the years so i kind of kind of try and push myself to get outside my comfort zone and see whether I actually like stuff or whether I'm just like stuck in my ways.
T
48:33TomGUEST
Do you know what I mean? It's like, it's dead easy.
T
48:35TomGUEST
Like I could just be like, I could just listen to Strung Out and Wilhelm Scream all day.

um so it wasn't planned um you know i love choke any opportunity i get uh to go out with them i'll take uh you know i think forward is a really formative record for us uh it's one of those records that took us from just being like a skate punk band to being like a complicated skate punk band which ultimately leads us to who we are today um and bands like choke and propaganda strung out like these were the punk bands that we were listening to that were like hey man like they're not just like straight ahead punk bands like they're doing tricky stuff monine also i would consider part of that um uh and it was like really important and formative for us and i got to watch propaganda in edmonton like right after covid like once we were allowed to go outside and be somewhere again i watched propaganda live with sean from choke and like i was just sitting there being like 16 year old me would be pants fortunately i'm like 38 and i'm just pissing my pants um but yeah it's cool to bring joke out
J

There's kind of that whole small man thing going on right in the G7 welcoming committee.

was trying to think that we went to a show, but we thought it was strung out.
W
33:21WattoHOST
That's what happened since I last freaking saw you.
S
33:24SeanHOST
Yeah, yeah.
S
33:29SeanHOST
truly, madly, deeply on the crowd.
S
33:31SeanHOST
no you haven't talked about that
W
33:33WattoHOST
yeah yeah and i was like oh it was good it was a good gig sick to meet them and stuff and like yeah i was like oh the next song is a new one we'll release it like in two days but um if you know the words sing along and everyone's like and then fuck they're all singing the words because they're fucking up and so i mean his song but um yeah for a wednesday night in caloundra man that was a sick night strung out played great and um just meeting the guys in the band like afterwards and their their bass player who i'd never seen before sort of a newer fella in the band he was just like he stood out the front and watched us the whole time he was like dude you were so sick and i used um got to use chris's cab so that was pretty cool and
S

he was
Death By Stereo - If looks could kill, I’d watch you die & Amy Winehouse - Back to Black

He's held it together.
D
12:45DeathHOST
And kudos for them especially considering they never really got big and i kind of place these guys with strung out in that regard um you know strung out's probably a bigger band but they both are like too metal for punk and not metal enough for metal you know what i'm saying yeah i i hear you They're just in that weird spot in between.
D
13:14DeathHOST
You could call strung out maybe like a melodic pop punk slash metal band where death by stereo is more like a melodic punk slash hardcore band.
D
13:26DeathHOST
Right.
D
13:28DeathHOST
But, you know, I don't know.
D
13:30DeathHOST
I kind of think that death by stereo rocks way harder than strung out, but they both, they both struggled to fit into a genre.
D
13:39DeathHOST
And so that found both of these bands touring with like a really eclectic array of bands and not really fitting in anywhere.
D
13:49DeathHOST
And they started out on this record label called indecision records.
