Struma

The first thing I want to indicate to you is that the success of the Delian League from the outset was extraordinary.

One little town that was still in Persian hands in 477 was the town of Aeon, located at the mouth of the Strymon River up in Thrace.

The Athenian commander took a lead fleet to Aeon and drove the Persians out.

Soon thereafter, by the way, the dates that we have for this are very insecure.

And then, okay, so the Thracian Valley I visited, and I went to a wi- winery, which we'll talk about later on.

And, um, the fifth region I visited also, and I went to a winery there, it's called the Struma Valley.
