Scientists from the Stroud Water Research Center, Millersville University, and California State University looked at aquatic insects like mayflies and stoneflies that were collected over a 20-year span.

Microplastics are as prevalent in forested parts of the watershed as they are in urban areas, but it's unclear why.

One theory is that microplastics could travel with various weather patterns.
