So there is some data to indicate that dog ownership is associated with longevity.

There was a really interesting study published back in the early 2000s in the journal Stroke, in which they took 48 New York stockbrokers who had labile hypertension, in which a person's blood pressure goes up, but not all the time, usually when they're under stress.

And of course, stockbrokers are under a lot of stress.

And they randomized the groups.

And the dogs were far better at controlling labile hypertension.

Dog ownership arm did much better than the medication arm.

And that was not published in a touchy-feely journal.
