Straw man

here's the thing.

Good morning, Straw Men.

What about the thousands of people, bodybuilders and otherwise, who train twice a week that didn't end up looking like Arnold, right? And of course, there's so many examples of that.

You have an 80-year-old who's never exercised their life and they go on to live to 95 years of age and we say well exercise isn't necessary well we were studying that one survivor there's a survivorship bias there number nine is straw man misrep uh misrepresenting in position excuse me an opposing position so it's easier to attack So this is people who advocate low volume training think you should barely exercise.

Okay, well, that's not exactly what a low volume advocate is saying.

So when you change, you misrepresent that position.

So it's a little bit easier to attack.

That's straw man.

10 is false dichotomy.

Presenting only two choices when more exists, right? Either you train to muscle failure or your workout isn't effective.

Like in a lot of shops, the versions have names as they get stronger.

Straw man, and then tin man, and then iron man.

So we throw a weak argument out there first.

Here's why this works.

And of course, that has multiple meanings.

The scarecrow is a man made of straw.

That's the most literal explanation.

But then they talk about, you know, the metaphorical term straw man, which is you create a fake argument rather than use a real argument.

You know, it's kind of like a politician will say, unlike some people, I won't mention any names.

I am against communism.

And it must be all of the evidence.

It's all straw men arguments, right? These arguments are for show.

The people actually following it and paying attention to it, there's a nuanced belief.

And if you understand what is actually being evaluated, then you know that beyond reasonable doubt, evidence has not been presented yet.

And so on the most recent episode, he talks about Klay Thompson joining the Miami Heat.

And if you have ever heard of straw man, This one might take the cake because everyone who has commented about the Miami Heat signing Klay Thompson has pretty much said the exact same thing.

which is he's going to be their version of Ray Allen 2013.

I haven't heard anyone say anything else.
