Strategic bomber

Mm-hmm.

The Rice Fair issued a requirement in June 1932 for what they called Schwerer Bomber, a heavy bomber.

This thing was basically going to be a twin-engined aircraft with a top speed of 300 kilometers an hour.

That resulted in the Heinkel 111, the Dornier 17, and the Ju 86.

So the medium bombers were originally called Schwerer bomber, heavy bomber, but they soon realized that actually, you know, we'd need something like, you know, the Hamelin page or whatever it was.

They needed a really big, big thing that could carry a really big, heavy load.

So they came up with Gross Bomber.

And the two contenders for that were Dornier and Junkers with the DO-19 and the JU-89.
