All of Us Strangers

Uh, so I'm a piece of shit.

Andrew Haig's A Long Winter, which is a follow-up after All of Us Strangers.

So I think that's why many people were kind of excited for this.

I think it's a gorgeously shot, dull, dull, dull movie.

there were things that were muted.

I don't think it had the same thing as Venice or even past Tellurides where there was a film that everyone was like, that was bad, you know? A Long Winter, I think, had a more muted reception than All of Us Strangers, which was Arthur Andrew High's previous film.

Mm-hmm.

I think it's just a little quiet, a little slow.

And I just feel the same with this film.

It's all of us strangers.

And just a little word, if you're going to watch it, it's definitely a film that talks about grief and shows grief.

But, and this is where I come in with it, with my sort of thoughts, I think this film is also about hope and not surviving, but thriving through a period of surviving and healing.

I'm very excited about this because my next guest, you probably know him as the hot priest in Fleabag, maybe Mariarty in Sherlock, or the lead in All of Us Strangers, the brilliant movie with Paul Nesko.

He got widespread critical acclaim.

He's just done so much.

Okay, so the other tributes in Telluride are, of course, Sandra Huller, and Rose and Fatherland will both show there.

And then the other one is Andrew Haig, the British filmmaker of All of Us Strangers in 45 Years.

He's showing A Long Winter, A Deepwood Survival Tale, starring Kit O'Connor and Iban Moss-Bakrak.

I'm looking forward to seeing that.

But I think regardless, it's interesting to look at this Best Actor race, and we'll get into it later, but that you have two instances of that in the race, excepting Bradley Cooper.

You still have Domingo, and you have Andrew Scott in All of Us Strangers.

I remember thinking it would be a real shame If both Domingo and Scott get left off from a relatively tight pool of names that are in serious consideration, it would be a real shame if those are the two biggest snubs.

So on that level, I was also very happy that Domingo got in.

Thankfully, Justin is getting his due, as are you.

So as far as precursors, this pretty solid showing, almost exclusively in actor and sometimes song, like I was saying earlier, but the Golden Globes, Domingo is nominated for Best Actor in a Drama, loses to Cillian Murphy alongside Bradley Cooper for Maestro, and then non-Oscar nominees, DiCaprio for Killers of the Flower Moon, Barry Keoghan for Saltburn, and Andrew Scott for All of Us Strangers.

who were probably the only other three that had a legitimate stake to the claim of best actor this year outside of the five that got nominated.

It is called A Long Winter.

Andrew Haig's last movie was All of Us Strangers, which just missed my top 10 and was in your top 10, if I remember correctly.

Yes, it was.

Yeah, it was number 11 for me.
