Stornoway

Who knows, he may even give us a Bob Dylan song to lift our spirits.

There's also music from Richard Thompson, from Stornoway, from The Ran, Lady Nade, Izzy Walsh and Sari.

Lucy Shields will be here with the album release and gig news, and I'll be revealing the performer who is joining me for Folk on Foot's 100th walk.

But let's kick us off in style with two of England's finest fiddle players recording together for the first time.

It's out on Friday the 13th of November.

Still to come, my conversation with Martin Simpson, as he too marks a significant milestone in his career, plus music from Richard Thompson, Stornoway, The Ran and Lady Nade.

The holidays are supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year, but let's be real.

When my daughter was younger, we loved singing and dancing to music together.

Then, Zorbing by the band Stornoway found its way onto our playlist.

And whenever it came on, crank it up in the car or at home.

And during the chorus, we would lock eyes, sing the hell out of it, and just have fun.

It was a Rachmaninoff symphony.

So when we put that record on, both of us were a bit scared, really.

It's just otherworldly sort of soundscapes that you don't really hear in the world of indie folk music that Stornoway operates in, nor in the world of nursery rhymes that my daughter tends to occupy.

So this crazy multi-layered harmonic... cacophony left out of us from the record player as the record span.
