And I've really been looking forward to this conversation.

Our next guest has spent 12 years in the major leagues, an all-star, a Gold Glove winner, American League leader in stolen bases.

He's won the Roberto Clemente Award, and for years now we've gone to watch him talk baseball on MLB Network.

But what makes this conversation especially fun for me is that he's also got a really cool connection to the Bay Area, having played rugby.

Yeah.

And he was with the Royals.

He had 59 stolen bases.

I had 59 stolen bases.

They're not fun until Dylan Dingler gets a stolen base.

This was overlooked when I wrote about steals.

Dylan Dingler has zero career stolen bases.

He's now well over 1,100 plate appearances in his career.

That's the second highest among active players without a stolen base, second to Jonathan Aranda.

When he led the league in stolen bases, I think he was over 40.

luckily you got a little bit of help on the out-of-town scoreboard as i touched on so it's okay that you didn't come out as hot as you should have but they like this was a season defining series for the blue jays and they came out cold and like they didn't help out the starter and their starter didn't help them out it ended up at just four earned runs well i guess a total of four earned runs five stolen bases and five innings it's just not good enough from c's i mentioned the fastball velo it was averaging his four seamer that is 97.8 in both april and may that's elite that's some of the best stuff in baseball from a right-handed pitcher uh it was 97.4 in june so it fell a little bit but three months of the season when you're starting pitcher your guy is averaging in the mid like 97 plus like you're gonna take that that's obviously elite that's stupid like fastball velocity from a guy that is going to give you 100 plus pitches every time But the fact that he is giving you 100-plus pitches every time and routinely working so deep into games, getting into the sixth and seventh inning, going up above 105, 110 pitches.

He had a couple no-hit bids mixed in there where, yeah, he extended probably further than he should have.

Because of that, we're now seeing the fastball velo down to 95.6 in two starts in September.

Yeah.

The, um, rate stats that take into account park factor are going to give him some credit here.

And yeah, the stolen bases is like one thing.

Um, Yeah, that's a problem.
