Stierlitz

Nothing we're doing is working out.

I have a feeling that there's a Stirlitz in our ranks, the commander said, invoking the name of a fictional sleeping agent, the hero of a popular Soviet movie who had infiltrated the Nazi leadership.

Scanning the room, the commander settled his gaze on Stupnikov.

Stupnikov tried to play it off as a joke.

By summer, the command suspected an informer.

One commander said the unit seemed to have its own Stirlitz.

On the night of the 6th of July 2024, he walked across the road through the minefields that the Ukrainians had prepared for him and handed over his phone and passwords, which gave Ukraine live pictures from about a dozen Russian drones and cameras for months afterwards.

He then joined the Russian Volunteer Corps and, according to the Journal, is now fighting against the 36th Brigade, his old unit.
