The easy answer has to do with the mathematical structure of the function that relates the information that's in your DNA to the actual complex traits that are exhibited in an individual.

So there is some mathematical function, which if you take as an input, the genes, the genetic information, DNA information for an individual, that function then maps to some prediction.

And the prediction could be this person is six feet tall.
